To achieve these goals, CCAT holds annual conferences—some of which are international—that regularly attract delegates from across Canada and several other countries. Professional development is a major focus and training programs have been developed for adjudicators and staff of administrative tribunals.
Our literacy project, a major undertaking, is aimed at making tribunal members and staff more aware of the problem of low literacy among participants and develops materials to help tribunals better serve these citizens.
Organization
CCAT is based in the National Capital Region and is administered by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee. The Board is composed of members and senior staff from federal, provincial, and territorial tribunals as well as individuals with a special interest in administrative justice. Generally, half of the directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting for two-year terms.
The Executive Committee is composed of a chair, two vice-chairs, a secretary, a treasurer, and an executive director who manages the day-to-day business of CCAT. The Board of Directors appoints the members of the Executive Committee.
