A dynamic planning team, led by Symposium Co-chairs Andrée Gosselin, Administrative Judge, Tribunal administratif du travail, Jennifer Khurana, Vice-Chairperson, General Division, Employment Insurance Section, Social Security Tribunal of Canada and Scott Streiner, Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Transportation Agency, is creating an exciting symposium relevant to our work and the issues facing administrative decision-makers, regulators and staff.

This Symposium will bring together 300+ individuals from the administrative justice community from all parts of Canada and internationally.

The program will feature keynote presentations by thought leaders as well as workshops and roundtables focussed on providing new strategies and practical skills that will increase our effectiveness and help us achieve excellence. Among the topics to be discussed are:
  • The application of international conventions in decision-making by domestic tribunals
  • Truth and Reconciliation Commissions around the world: comparing experiences and results
  • Inter-cultural awareness and skills as a core competency for modern tribunals
  • Access to justice for self-represented individuals, including persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and others from historically disadvantaged groups
  • Ethical challenges and adjudicative decision-making
  • The use of mediation by tribunals to resolve disputes more quickly and with less damage to relationships
  • Inquisitorial versus adversarial adjudication: comparing approaches
  • Innovative uses of technology to deliver administrative justice more efficiently
From arrival to departure, you'll be immersed in dialogue and transformative ideas with innovative leaders and fellow learners.
The Symposium would not be complete without networking events offering you time to interact with colleagues.
This is a great opportunity to connect, learn and lead. It will also be fun!
